Title: "Genesis"

Summary: (Blue Rain AU) A retelling of the first and second chapters of Blue Rain, from a different point of view.
Read it on AO3.
I never actually planned to post this story. I wrote most of it years ago, probably in 2018, when I wondered to myself, "Why exactly was Jon in Chiswick, close enough to respond to Donna's screams within minutes?" After all, he lives in Acton and at the time, he hadn't become a superhero, so there was no reason for him to be wandering around London on a worknight. It was also an interesting exercise, to take the attack and rescue scene in chapter 2, strip out everything but the dialogue, and retell it from Jon's point of view, but it turned out to be not particularly useful - it still didn't tell me why - so I added the lead-up (chapter 1), and then the discussion long after the fact between Jon and Donna.
More recently, I've posted a couple of Blue Rain snippets, and the positive response to them made me think that I should post this. It was never meant to be anything but personal writing, but I thought people might find it fun. So, I finished it, then spent a couple of weeks polishing it, using it to practice improving style, and I think it's really benefited from the intense scrutiny. I probably rewrote a good tenth of it, maybe even a fifth of it, in bits and pieces as I found some pretty terrible writing and phrasing. I also caught all the misuses of the work "block" and corrected them. My Britglish is getting better.
I just really like this one, because it blends introspection and action. Also, I really like Jon, and he finally gets to speak here.
