Summary: Another day, another corridor to run down.

This was written for the 6/26/2015 Flash Fan Fiction Friday contest (prompt is "Twist") for the Literary Fan Fiction group on deviantArt.

"Come on!" Jack urged as they sprinted, pulling Rose along by the hand. "It's right behind us! It's gaining, by the sound of it, but just a little further and we're finally out of this cursed place."

Rose couldn't hear anything over their frantic footsteps that echoed through the metal corridors and her own ragged panting, but she imagined its hot breath on her neck and slavering jaws, and that was enough to keep her running. Turning a corner, Jack slammed into a solid door and grunted an "Oof!" as Rose sandwiched him against it. Pushing her off none too gently, he grabbed at the handle. "It's locked!"

"Lucky I have this, then." She dug the sonic screwdriver out of her pocket, then stared at it. "I don't know how it works."

"Point and click, I hope!" Jack grabbed her hand and pointed the device at the door. She pressed the button on the side, but despite the high electronic trill, nothing happened.

"Oonnh!" Rose groaned as she fiddled with the device. "Come on. Come on!" But she fell silent as they both heard footsteps on the other side of the door as well. She glanced up at Jack, who, placing a finger to his lips to beg her silence, stepped back to peer around the corner, back they way they had come.

"Nothing yet," he murmured, "but..."

The footsteps quickened then stopped. Rose jerked as the door handle turned, backing into Jack, whose hands on her shoulders were oddly reassuring. The door swung open, revealing Jack in his long coat. His eyes flicked to just above her head, then to her face. "Rose," he whispered, "what is that behind you?"

Wait... there's Jack behind her and Jack in front of her? Isn't that a Rose sandwich? Or is that not Jack behind her... ooh, a mystery!

Anyway, this just dumped us right into the middle of all the action, adrenaline flowing and chaos. Such fun, it makes the reader actually lose their breath trying to keep up! I love it when that happens...

A funny thought, Rose should learn how to use a screwdriver, shouldn't she? I was just amused at the thought of her having a tool and not knowing how to use it.

I'm glad you liked the action! I love writing action, and it's a challenge to hit the ground running with so few words (the prompt requires less than 500 words, less than 300 if you can manage it).

My husband had the same quibble with the sonic screwdriver. As soon as he read it, he said, "Rose knows how to use the sonic!" He was referring to "School Reunion", which is one of the few Series 2 episodes we like and watch a lot, where Rose and Sarah Jane are using the sonic to get into the school computers and start arguing over the Doctor. I had to explain to him that this story is set in Series 1, when Jack is travelling with Rose and Nine. I figured at that point, Rose hadn't yet learned to use the sonic, and imagined for this story that she had ended up carrying it for some reason.

Yes, I can! This was actually an adaptation of my first attempt at a creepypasta. The original wasn't very good (it was written for a contest in which you had tell a horror story in six lines), but I figured I'd could change it into a little fanfic with some action and surprise.

Hee!! Evol woman...loved it though!! Every single line! And yeah...continuing would likely ruin it. Still. Never hurts to beg ask, does it? :D

Two Jacks, this is Christmas! (Gives "sandwiched" a whole other value.)

Very nice piece, love the action and pace :)

Yeah, I like the imagery of two Jacks here. It's the reason I used the word "sandwich" here, so that it was fresh in the reader's mind when the second Jack appeared. ;)
